Using Bedroom Feng Shui to Improve Behaviour of a Teenage Child

Feng Shui is about using the environment of modify or change behaviour. As we know, it is part of the child development for the behaviours of teenage children to change. It can at times be quite bad. It is normal and natural and we have to accept it. We know that, there is a balance between the two extremes of “love” and using “punishment”. We have a narrow path to tread.

There is a technique that is not well used in the West for the improvement of behaviour. This is using feng shui in the bedroom.

How does this work?

Feng shui is a Chinese system of environmental management which developed with the rise of Chinese civilisation some 40 centuries ago. It is about managing the environment to change or modify behaviour. The suggestions in this article are about creating a “non-aggressive” environment. Also, the child’s behaviour will be more in keeping with the parent’s values.

It involves the re-decoration of the bedroom.

1. Colour

The room colour should be changed to a non-aggressive or neutral like beige or any earth tone. Do avoid pink or fuchsia for young girls – they will mature too early and possibly take up the trashy celebrity culture values. Also, do not have strong colours like black, red or blue as well.

2. Images

Remove the aggressive images and change them to aspirational and positive ones – like sporting heroes, music and TV stars of good standing, even outstanding business people or scholars. Do emphasise the values of good morals and non- violence.

3. Clutter.

Clear the room of clutter especially things under the bed. Where possible, it is good training to make up the bed properly every day. Also, reinforce the habit of maintaining the room clean and tidy.

4. Position of Bed.

As part of the re-decoration, re-position the bed to point in the same direction as the parents. The child will come to have more similar views to that of the parents.

Conclusion:

Having a teenage child that is behaves badly is a difficult situation for the family. This method is passive involves the bedroom where the child spends at least 8 hours in a day.

Office Feng Shui – Organization and Clutter

Office feng shui is all about making your office an enjoyable and productive place to work. One of the largest obstacles to achieving this is clutter and disorganized chaos in your office. Albert Einstein, arguably one of the smartest men ever to have lived, is quoted as saying that “if a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind than what does an empty desk mean?” This quote is important because a desolate, empty and lifeless desk is almost as bad as a cluttered trash heap of papers and miscellaneous items (inhibits feng shui wealth gain). Removing clutter from your desk is important due to the fact that a cluttered work area will inhibit the flow of energy in the room therefore stifling energy and focus.

How can one focus on needed tasks and projects when surrounded by a disorganized mess? How can one find what they’re looking for when nothing is categorized and placed in certain spots? The fact of the matter is that you are deeply hurting yourself to not involve organization and clutter removal in your feng shui process. I’d go as far to say that the first step you should take in turning your office into a productivity and abundance paradise is getting rid of clutter. Financial and all-round abundance is deeply connected to a clean, organized work area due to ease of energy flow, but also to the fact that a person is able to find and work on things that are easy to access. Here are 5 tips to remove clutter and organize your work area.

1. Throw out all items that don’t function (pens with no ink, burnt out lightbulbs etc).

2. Spend a day (or less) going through all the mess in your work area and disposing of what you no longer need (you’ll be surprised at how much useless stuff you have) and categorizing the essentials. You should have a pile of manila folders that you can sort different types of paper into (receipts, work documents, letters etc).

3. Make sure that cords from electronic devices do not interfere with your path during the day. They should be kept out of site and done up with a cord organizer or just tied up with a bit of string.

4. Utilize the two minute rule: If something takes less than two minutes to dispose of/deal with (throwing something out, writing a note) DO IT. Don’t procrastinate and make sure that all tasks that are under two minutes in length are completed immediately.

5. Some good grouping ideas include grouping papers or items by project (i.e. the Hanson Design Firm assignment will have its own folders and notes). Hopefully this folder will then have subfolders where miscellaneous notes, musings and action steps can reside.

These tips are straightforward and easy to apply (like most things in feng shui). All it takes is some mindfulness to apply them daily (or monthly) and you will see your productivity, happiness, organization and wealth increase drastically.

Why Have Your Boiler Serviced?

Why should you service your boiler?

So, your boiler is fired up and working well, your house is nice and warm, so why should you service your boiler?

Safety

Gas Safe Register recommends that you have your boiler serviced annually. In doing this, you may prevent carbon monoxide from leaking into your house. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odourless, deadly gas that can kill! Many tragedies happen because of carbon monoxide don’t let one of them happen in your household. When servicing your boiler, a qualified gas engineer will check that your boiler is running safely and he will detect if there is any carbon monoxide leaking into your house.

Efficiency

Having your boiler serviced at the recommended times will also help to keep your boiler working efficiently. Not having your boiler serviced annually could result in many problems with the running of your boiler.

Cost

If you have your boiler serviced annually you could be saving yourself money. A boiler that is serviced the recommended amount will run more efficiently and so this may prevent your boiler from breaking down, saving you the cost of getting it fixed. Some call outs to boiler breakdowns are simply because some dust has got into the boiler causing it to stop working. A service could have prevented this. Now you have to pay for the boiler to be fixed, plus the cost of a service.

So with these 3 reasons to get your boiler serviced, you can’t afford not to! The service should be carried out by a qualified gas engineer who is Gas Safe Registered. You should install a carbon monoxide alarm for total peace of mind.

Tips To Use Feng Shui With Lighting To Brighten Up The Home

For a great home decor, proper illumination is crucial. On one hand it will bring the home to life while at the same time highlighting various decorative points of the room. There is one aspect that not many people are aware of, and that is bringing positive energy to the home by way of mixing in lighting with Feng Shui.

Feng Shui is all about the chi energy that needs to be balanced, and the light can do that easily. Balancing brings together the yin and the yang in a room in several ways. For example you might want to use windows to have great lighting come in from outdoors, however this might not be always enough. You either don’t have enough windows to for the necessary light to come into the home or your windows are facing towards an area that doesn’t let light enter freely, such as when you have a tall building right across your home.

Using lamps you can enhance the decor of your home and you can bring this extra light that the rooms need. Feng Shui helps place and use the light correctly so that you get all the benefits from having that extra positive energy in your home.

For example you should place a bright light facing South, as this is said to bring in fame, fortune and recognition. South-east is reserved for relationships and using a pretty decorative lamp in colors such as pink or green can easily help enhance this aspect of your home grow unencumbered.

Place a well lit lamp facing East for a balanced family life. This also helps enhance the family ties and keep them close together.

When it comes to kids, the lamps should be added on the West side in the kid’s room or the living room. The lamp should have a lamp shade that speaks of silliness and fun.

Adding a few antique ceiling lights in the living room and dining room can greatly enhance the overall ambient of the rooms. Paired with a couple of brass floor lamps they will truly look the part in any home!

Feng-Shui Magic: Can Simply Changing the Color of Your Main Entry Door Actually Change Your Luck?

Background

A couple of years ago, I developed a curiosity about Feng-Shui. I wasn’t really sure about it, and much of what I read was confusing, complicated, and contradictory. (Several different schools of Feng-Shui exist; and each has its own “rules”, which can be at odds with those of another school). One day, while browsing the Internet, I came upon an article whose title jumped out at me. I don’t remember it exactly, but it was something like “When Should Your Front Door Not Be Painted Red?”

I had a red door! And up until then, much of what I had read promoted the idea of painting the front door red — a very auspicious color since it is associated with wealth, power, and happiness. And the front door (or more importantly, the main door used most by the family even if it’s not on the front of the home) is particularly important in Feng-Shui. It is considered the “Mouth of Chi” or energy. And obviously you want the energy entering your home to be good energy (that is, good fortune), not bad.

I absolutely loved my red door. It was a gorgeous deep shade of red that perfectly matched the color of the shutters on my home. And yet, I began to wonder… my husband had been struggling to find a decent-paying job in his field; and I was totally unhappy and stuck in a job that was also not paying as much as it should. We were certainly having money issues. Since a red door was definitely not “working” for us, maybe there was something to this!

According to the article, although it’s true that many serious practitioners of Feng-Shui do paint their main door red because of its powerful association with wealth, it is far more important to select a color based on the direction your door faces. In my case, it was North, which in Feng-Shui, is associated with the water element. Water colors include blue and black.

Interestingly enough, I had been toying with the idea of painting my front door a glossy black for some time. I had fallen in love with the look while perusing various home decorating magazines. But I really didn’t have the nerve. No one in our neighborhood or circle of friends had a black door. It seemed somewhat radical. And I knew that what works well in a high-end magazine shoot doesn’t always translate well in real life.

But the article’s premise intrigued me. I decided to go ahead and paint my door black. The worst that could happen would be that I would absolutely hate the color. And that could be fixed easily enough by re-painting.

My Experience

So even though it was a cold November weekend, I went ahead and did it. Fortunately, there was a glass storm door that provided some protection from the cold. The front door opened inward into the foyer, and I had a space heater to help me keep warm. And before I even got the first coat of black finished, I knew I loved it! It was exactly the rich, elegant, stunning look I’d seen in the magazines — and it looked great on my door. It even complemented the red of the shutters.

As I finished putting the second coat on late Sunday afternoon, I playfully thought to myself, “OK, I wonder how long it will take for my luck to change”. I really wasn’t very serious about it, as I was just more thrilled that the door had turned out so well.

Results

The next morning, I had been at work for maybe 20 minutes when my phone rang. It was our HR department telling me I had won 2nd prize in our in-house United Way Prize Drawing… a flat screen TV! Now, I had never won much of anything before in my life and had not even seriously considered that I might win a prize in this drawing since I never had in my 16 years of working there and we have over 3500 employees. And interestingly enough, my husband and I had been wanting a flat screen TV, but couldn’t really afford to buy one at the time.

And our “luck” really didn’t stop there — although other results were not quite as striking. These included easily finding prime parking spaces, even at a super-crowded event with overflow parking only. And our favorite restaurant that day was over-booked and difficult to get into. We were put on standby but still “managed” to obtain a table for the six of us by a window overlooking an idyllic scene. And for about a year or so after that, everything seemed to “flow” very easily for us; even to this day, several years later, we do often seemed “blessed” in this regard.

But did we become instant millionaires? No we did not. And although I don’t hold Feng-Shui totally responsible for this, I know that it is an extremely complicated science and there are many, many things that can ultimately affect your luck. I’m still very much a novice and still have many more changes to make.

Nevertheless, this was enough to show me that there really is something to this, and I’ll continue my studies and experimentation. I offer the list below, based on my own research, with a disclaimer that I am not an expert, and that you should do your own research as well. Keep in mind that you will find many, many contradictory statements regarding Feng-Shui. (I have since found a few articles on the Internet stating that a north-facing door should be painted red… but I’m not changing mine! Fortunately, most promote a black door). Also be aware that there are quite a few charlatans and individuals passing themselves off as experts who are not.

Suggestions for Door Colors

The number one rule would be to choose a color you love and that complements your home. Certainly it would not be good “chi” if you hate the color of your main door. That would make you unhappy. But if you’d like to experiment with this Feng-Shui idea of painting your main door based on compass direction in order to enhance your luck, a list of the directions and their associated colors is offered below. You can always change the color back again if you don’t like it — or if you’re not happy with the “luck” you receive!

  • North: Water colors (Shades of Blue or Black)
  • Northeast: Earth colors (Shades of Brown, Beige, Terracotta, Ochre, or Peach)
  • East: Wood colors (Shades of Green or Brown)
  • Southeast: Wood colors (Shades of Green or Brown)
  • South: Fire Colors (Shades of Red, Orange, Yellow, Purple, Pink, or Maroon)
  • Southwest: Earth colors (Shades of Brown, Beige, Terracotta, Ochre, or Peach)
  • West: Metal Colors (Shades of White, Gray, Gold, Silver, or Copper )
  • Northwest: Metal Colors (Shades of White, Gray, Gold, Silver, or Copper)

Balancing Yin Yang Energies In The Home

Yin yang is a common symbol known all around the world. It is also a popular symbol used in decorating clothing, worn with accessories, and even on stickers. As popular as it is, its meaning is not commonly known. It represents the two energies that put everything in motion, that make everything happen; they are the essence of life. This is shown in the way the black and white halves of the symbol, although separate, seem to continuous flow and move together as one.

The Feng Shui colors that interpret yin and yang are black and white. Yin carries the black color while yang energy carries the white. They must work together, one cannot exist without the other and they cannot operate alone. Within a home, when balance is everything, peaceful feng shui energy is needed to attract supporting energy and that is why the balance of yin and yang are important.

The passive energy of yin is also known as the female energy. This yields to the forces surrounding it. Yin is the energy of rest, relaxed and slow movements, silence, and deep darkness. The night when one is sleeping or anytime one is resting to recharge, this is the dominant energy.

The active energy of yang is also known as the masculine energy. This is the force that keeps everything moving. Yang is a strong energy, vibrant and lively colors and sounds are associated with it. It is the upward energy movement. A home full of people, a busy office, and a lively party all are dominated with this energy.

The family room, living room, and a kitchen are generally the areas that carry the strongest presence of yang energy because they are the most active areas. Having lively colors and vibrant elements in those places contributes to that active energy. Using a lot of media materials and interactive games in those place helps to attract that energy. The balance of yin cannot be forgotten, as that passive energy is needed. Deep colors and comfortable seating areas help to keep the flow of balance.

The bedroom is usually the main area to carry the passive yin energy. There you want a place that is relaxing so one can recharge. The energy in this room needs to be feminine, relaxing, and about sleep. It is important to keep the dominant yang energies from overtaking this area by removing TVs, exercise equipment, and office work. But leave light colors and candles to balance out the darkness of yin.

Creating a home that carries a harmonious balance of feng shui yin yang energies is essential. A fulfilling and healthy life needs the balance those energies bring, and a good quality of it. Oftentimes feng shui energies can be imbalanced, life is busy so the yang dominates. That is why it is important to balance both yin and yang in the home.

Is There Meaning in the Moment?

“In every moment the universe is whispering to you. There are messages for you carried on the winds. There is wisdom for you in the morning songs of the birds outside your window and in the soft murmurs of an ebbing sea. Even ordinary, everyday events in your life carry communications from the realm of spirit.”

~~ Denise Linn, The Secret Language of Signs

Have you ever wondered if there is meaning behind life’s everyday occurrences? Those times when you’re outside and suddenly find yourself surrounded by butterflies. Or a groundhog makes an appearance and stays instead of shuffling off to a den or secret hiding place. Or perhaps a hawk swoops by every time you venture out.

Are these random occurrences? Is there meaning behind the appearance of these animals at this time?

Yes and no.

If you feel that there is a connection, some meaning behind these sightings then there is. If on the other hand, you barely noticed any of the animals or barely felt a connection, then probably no, not at this time.

Sometimes we pass one another randomly, other times there is meaning in the passing.

I believe those times I see an animal that isn’t usually around people or my area, or when I see an animal repeatedly, these visits are visits meant for me and the meaning of these visits is for me to divine.

Let me give you an example from my life right now. Over the past three weeks, every time I go outside or I’m looking out my kitchen window, a beautiful, large Tiger Swallowtail butterfly drifts by. And it stays as long as I do. Sometimes, it’s the yellow and black version of a Tiger Swallowtail and other times it’s the mostly black version.

At first I thought it was a wonderful sign of the vitality of summer. But as the sightings gained in frequency I began to feel a deeper connection and symbolic meaning.

According to Denise Linn in her book, The Secret Language of Signs, butterfly signals a powerful new beginning, a time of transformation, beauty and new awareness, a rebirth.

And Ted Andrews, author of Animal Speak, says butterflies represent the process of transformation. Butterfly shows up when we are changing, evolving somehow.

Butterfly reminds us that life is a dance, a journey from moment to moment, flower to flower, experience to experience. The sweetness of life is experienced in the dance….or perhaps the sweetness of life is experienced in how we choose to dance.

Butterfly is a totem that has flown into my life on several occasions. The first time I recall was during my first Feng Shui training. I had a powerful dream in which a butterfly emerged from its chrysalis, spread its beautiful wings and lifted off. Initially, my sense was to name my business Emerging Butterfly, but then I realized that I was the butterfly emerging. Emerging from what I had been and lifting off, flying into what I was to become.

Butterfly showing up in my life now is also meaningful. I am at a time of change and transition in my life once again. Only this time, the transition involves my family and our relationships to one another. As we move from parent and child to adult relationships we all must release our past patterns and embrace each other as we are now: loving adults. (Course, I’ll always be the Mom!) And in this transition, I feel our space condensing, strengthening, and crystallizing.

There is such beauty and opportunity in change. I am grateful that butterfly comes to remind me and show me how fun the flight of life can be!

“Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music.” ~ George Carlin

Butterfly invites you to embrace the dance!

Feng Shui Decorating – Some Basic Suggestions

Feng Shui decorating is over 4000 years old, used by the Chinese to build cities and monuments so we should be able to utilise the principles to do some home or office decorating.

Feng Shui is said to be the rules that govern how we use space to ensure and promote a positive flow of energy, Ying and Yang. Believed to use the laws of Heaven, Astronomy and of Earth Geography.

If we get this right we should increase our own positive energy known as our Chi.

The first thing to recognise is that our builders were, for the most part, only thinking about cost reduction and not Feng Shui layouts. This may mean that we cannot achieve every aspect of Feng Shui because of the way our house is designed, but no matter how our home was built we can all apply the major principles and ensure some improvement in our energy.

The first principle is clutter. We all have clutter we all buy things and amass lots of stuff. To let the energy flow we have to get rid of all the clutter we need to remove all those unnecessary items, this is definitely the time to think “less is more”.

Having de cluttered we might be thinking about replacing furniture, if we are then we should think about the size and space available. Big is not best, bigger may seem better value, but we can obstruct all the positive flow of energy if everything is too big and if we fill every available square inch of space.

We should also go for round or oval edges where possible and remove all the sharp edged tables etc.

Now we need to think about colours Feng Shui decorating should be about harmony in our colours. So for areas where we wish to have calming and improving energy we should go for peaceful Ying colours, for those places we need to be uplifted and energetic such as the office, more bold colours Yang should be applied. More information on this can be seen at our information blog site.

Doors should be free to open fully and allow the flow of light and air, do not block the light with huge drapes or shades let the air and light flow. We know we need privacy and security but again this can be achieved in balance with some thought and management.

Harsh light such as fluorescent should be remove the use of candles will be relaxing and comforting and the ability to turn off the lights now and again and relax in the soft glow of the candles will provide positive energy.

Focal points should be something warm and happy, family portraits are always a good choice.

This should provide us with a warm comforting and relaxed atmosphere which allow balance with Ying and Yang and increase our positive energy. It may not be 100% Feng Shui but it will be 100% better.

My name is Lydia Gibbons and I took up Feng Shui Decorating after a number of moves and unbelievable stress levels which resulted. now I am think calm and positive and my decorating is the same. Most of the family have passed it off as silly stuff but I have noticed such a difference in our situation at home so now I want to share.

The Feng Shui of Water Fountains

In the field of Feng Shui, water is identified as the element capable of generating and activating the flow of endless opportunities. In fact, the word Shui in Feng Shui pertains to water. As such, aside from its capability to sustain life, water is greatly revered for its association with the concepts of wealth and prosperity, not just in financial outlook but also in terms of relationships, health, career and a whole lot more. The best means to capture all the positive components of water Feng Shui inside and outside one’s place is to integrate water fountains.

Water fountains are symbols of free flowing energy. Hence, they are often recommended to be placed in areas where energy levels have been stagnant. Aside from inviting positive energies in these places, fountains also serves as reservoirs of balance for these type of spaces. This is because the continuous flow of water channels the qi in spaces that require this kind of positive energy.

Fountains come in various materials including metals, ceramics and bamboos. Every material you use for your fountains strongly represents the three other elements of Feng Shui: metal, wood and earth. With these things in mind; homeowners should first know how each of these elements interact with water in order to maximize the benefits that can be derived from fountains. Accordingly, earth has the power to destroy or dissolve water, making ceramic fountains inappropriate for businesses and homes; metals and woods, on the other hand, are acknowledged for their abilities to enhance the element of water, thereby making copper fountains and bamboo fountains suitable for business establishments as well as homes.

Whether you wanted to use floor fountains or tabletop fountains, it is important to utilize the Feng Shui energy map called Ba-Gua in order to identify the right locations where you should place your fountains. Because fountains are water features that encapsulate the element of water, it is essential that you place them in areas that have the energies of water and wood. Basically, fountains can be placed in the east which stands for health and family, southeast which pertains to prosperity and abundance, and north which manifests career and path in life. It is noteworthy that fountains should not be placed in spaces facing south because according to Feng Shui belief the south coordinate stands for fame and reputation which commonly exude the fire energy, which is the total contradiction of water.

It is also vital to know that fountains come in a whole range of sizes and shapes. Therefore, smaller sized fountains are best fitted inside homes, while large sized fountains like floor fountains will look best outside your garden. Also try to complement them with the size of your space in order to avoid crowding, which could ruin the balance of energy in some areas inside or outside your home. Likewise, the shapes of your fountains should also suit the design of your spaces so as to maintain continuity and establish the right focal points for your home.

As water is an essential and powerful element, it must be dealt with proper care most especially if you want to integrate it in your home’s setup. The key to maximizing the power of water fountains is to place them in the right areas indicated by the Feng Shui energy map. Nonetheless, make sure that you would be able to fill them with their needed water to sustain the flow of positive energy. In so doing, you will definitely keep positive energy inside your home.

Water fountains serve a whole range of purpose especially in the context of Feng Shui. Generally, water is regarded as the universal element that can bring about cure, opportunities and good luck. Because of the many wonderful things associated with it, water features like floor fountains have long been used to generate positive energies in personal spaces. As water collaborates well with the element of metal, copper fountains are the primary choice to make the element of water more powerful.
