Sufficient orchid information would produce beautiful orchid blooms that an orchid lover would definitely enjoy.
There are easy steps for basic orchid information that an orchid grower should know; these are:
- Know the right temperature for your orchid plants. Temperature should be accurate to make your plants healthy. Most orchids grow much better in a room or place that is neither too hot nor too cold. The ideal temperature is mild because if it’s too cold; the leaves would have the tendency to turn yellow and eventually will fall off.
- Know when to use fertilizer. It is the same as almost every plant; there is a need to fertilize your orchid plants at the right time. Fertilizers can help orchids to grow faster. Remember to fertilize lightly most especially if the weather is cloudy.
- Know the right pot to use and when to do repotting. Probably one of the most important orchid information that an orchid grower should know is the kind of pot to use and when should repotting be done for the plants. Orchids would need to undergo repotting yearly; this is the process where the orchid plants are transferred to another pot in order to get a better chance for growth. The new pot should be able to accommodate the plants for at least six months.
- Know the correct media to use for your orchid plants. The ideal potting media for terrestrial orchids is that they are not meant to grow in soil. Epiphytes and terrestrial orchids have different requirements for media.
The most common medium for growing orchid plants are:
- Redwood bark chips
- Fir bark chips
- Osmunda fiber
- Tree fern fiber
- Coconut fiber
- Rockwool
The size and the texture of each medium are important because water retention is always considered in growing orchid plants. If you have the tendency to over water your orchid plants; choose a quick drying media. On the other hand, if you are not consistent in watering your plants; find a media that can hold moisture much longer.
